Kicking 2020’s Ass Bye-Bye!

Finally!

We’re saying bye-bye to one badass year. And honestly, we barely made it to the other side. It was challenging—surreal, really. If I could’ve hit CTRL + ALT + DEL to reboot and skip ahead to the new year, I would have.

I’m exhausted just thinking about everything we postponed, cancelled, delayed, didn’t do, reinvented, and compromised in order to survive the strict rules of COVID. It sucked.

Missing the buzz

This holiday season was the quietest to date. I missed the social scene—dinners, drinks with friends, champagne brunches with the girls, and that festive buzz you usually feel this time of year. But even with all that missing, it wasn’t a total bust. We made the best of a crazy situation, and in its own strange way, it was awesome.

And I’ll be honest—I didn’t miss the holiday madness. You know the drill: trying to do too much, spending too much, eating and drinking too much. I can’t confirm or deny the eating and drinking part, but overall, it was a chill holiday, and I loved it. Hanging out with my boys and my guy was the highlight.

The strangest visit ever

I was lucky to have both my boys home, but sadly my 98-year-old mother couldn’t join us. I wouldn’t risk her health. Instead, we had one of the weirdest visits ever: standing outside the seniors’ home, talking to her through a glass window while an iPad handled the audio. We laughed at how ridiculous it felt—cue the jokes: “How long have you been in the slammer?” Never in my life would I have imagined wishing my mother Merry Christmas through a window. She’s a good sport, but at 98, she doesn’t have many Christmases left, and that reality hit hard. Still, her safety comes first, she’s safer in her community than the possibility of being exposed to COVID.

Bring on the New Year

By the time New Year’s approached, I was more than ready. Let’s get ’er done! With essential-travel rules in place, my guy and I decided to get the hell out of Dodge and head to our home away from home on Savary Island.

It was our first time experiencing our little cabin during storm season. Holy moly—it was one hell of a storm. 2020 was leaving in a full-on huff. We weathered it (barely), but honestly? Enough. Time to take our lives back and kick 2020’s ass goodbye.

Let’s hope we experience calmer weather ahead, and here’s to a brighter 2021.

Happy New Year!
