Here we are again. It’s officially Fall, and as if someone flicked the switch, summer is sprinting towards fall, giving it a high five (“go get’em!”), you can feel the season changing. For some, it’s the dread of cooler temperatures, dreary skies and rain. We’ve already endured a few days of it pelting down, and there’s undoubtedly more to come. Can’t wait!
That aside, I happen to love Fall; who doesn’t love to hunker down on a chilly night, the rain is a perfect backdrop for quiet time indoors. Even the wine tastes better. And let’s not forget nature’s fine works of art; the leaves are now turning a gorgeous rich fire red and bright gold and orange. It’s a stunning display.
As for Halloween, there probably won’t be any trick or treaters, masks on masks? Thankfully, saving me from gorging on those bite-sized treats. Hey, but Pumpkin Spice Lattes are in full swing; I don’t understand this craze. Enjoy them while they’re here! And while we’re on the topic, have you heard that pumpkin spice will be the new Kraft Dinner flavour? Seriously, have we gone mad?
COVID isn’t going away
It will be interesting to see how we manage another season with COVID; it’s like an unwelcome guest. It won’t frick’n go away! There were definite mistakes made during the summer in regard to COVID. Larger groups were creating anything but a flat curve. It’s embarrassing to think we can’t do what we’re told. We’re behaving like children. I hope we’ve learned from our errors and made the necessary improvements where we can, improving our ways as we go forward. Perhaps we could try and behave like adults instead? Fingers crossed!
In the meantime, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says “families won’t likely be able to gather for Thanksgiving this year, but that it’s not time to give up on a Christmas quite yet.” Who’s giving up?! I can live without Thanksgiving, but “yikes,” please don’t take Christmas away! We may be living our worst nightmare or a Dr. Suess reality of “How the Grinch stole Christmas,” seriously?! We need to suck it up, take COVID seriously, and do our part by wearing masks and social distancing. I know; it’s a big pain in the ass. Just do it! Short-term pain for long-term gain, it’s that simple!
FASHION
Fall wouldn’t be Fall without the mention of Fall fashion; after all, it’s my favourite season. With that, some traditions must be adhered to, for instance, reading my favourite magazine, aka the fashion bible, or more commonly referred to as VOGUE. For its September 2020 issue, American Vogue invited Kerry James Marshall and Jordan Casteel to create paintings for the magazine cover; it’s a rare occasion worth checking out. I love getting lost in the many pages packed with fashion, mostly ads, but do we really care? No, it’s called tuning out the world (cuz it’s gone to the dogs) to enjoy some instant gratification, doing what makes us happy.
Dare I mention November 3, 2020, and the US election? Nah! That’s a later conversation. The world will be watching. I know I’ll be on pins and needles, stay tuned!
It sounds like you have it worse there. Despite the way our debate seemed this week, it’s a pretty good situation in the States. After Nov 3, my guess is that things will loosen up. I like the caution, as it shortens my commute from 37 miles to 10 feet, at least until the end of the year.
Keep it positive, young lady!
