One hundred: Reflections on My 100th Blog Post

How it all began

I can’t believe this is my 100th post! Over the years, there have been many late nights spent writing, usually with music playing and maybe a little glass of wine. My husband at the time would often tell me to stop talking and “Start writing!”

With his support, I took the challenge seriously. I enrolled in weekend writing classes and decided, I’m going to do this! That decision led to the creation of ICOVET, which has become a sort of journal for me. I’ve been writing for almost three years, and sticking with it has exceeded my expectations. Along the way, I’ve jotted down countless notes and snapped photos to inspire my stories.

ICOVET: My Journal and Creative Outlet

My very first blog post, “A New Year,” was inspired by a vacant lot across the street. I watched the events there change over time, and it became a metaphor for the unpredictable events in my own life.

Not long after, I fulfilled a lifelong dream: I travelled to Paris for a month. Writing about that adventure surprised me—I had never travelled alone before, and I discovered I was comfortable doing it. Sharing my experiences became one of my favourite parts of ICOVET.

Navigating Life’s Transitions

After 27 years of marriage, my husband and I decided to call it quits, writing “What’s Next?”—if anything—gave me the last word and closure. Life had been turned upside down, and writing became my lifeline. It kept me sane, gave me purpose, and made me stronger. It has been an incredible journey, even if only three years long.

At the same time, my sons were growing up quickly. My oldest was in university, and the youngest was finishing high school—these were busy times. It was time to let go and let my boys forge their own paths. “Empty nest” and “Reinventing myself’ had me wondering where that left me. This was a difficult transition, as I tried to come to terms with my new reality of being on my own.

Dating—or the lack of it—was another challenge. Will I ever be with someone again? “Swipe Right” chronicles what life is like on a dating app, which, for me, confirmed, “It’s a shit show out there!” But, what if you connect with a crush from your past, calling this “Synchronicity,” not knowing the rules? I was let down and decided to move on. Timing is everything.

The Power of Writing

These are just a few examples from my life. I have written many stories, making a conscious effort to stay positive — I like to think there’s always a silver lining. My passion for writing has been a journey in itself; discovering my voice and sharing my experiences has been a process.

If I’ve entertained you, made you laugh or cry, or even changed the way you do something for the better or differently, then it’s all been worthwhile.

Looking Ahead: Another 100 Posts?

I’ve loved this journey, and I’m not sure what’s next… maybe another 100 posts? Definitely! Thank you for being here with me and sharing in this adventure.
