I was absolutely thrilled during my time in Paris when the House of Dior commemorated 70 years with an exhibit at the Musee des Arts Decoratifs (a stunning gallery adjacent to the Louvre). Visiting the Christian Dior Couturier Du Rêve, or Designer of Dreams, was undeniably the ultimate fashion exhibit experience, and it marked my first time attendance at such an event. Witnessing 70 years of couture showcased under one roof was simply unparalleled.

However, I was utterly mesmerized by the array of dresses, gowns, suits, and accessories on display. The curators impeccably sourced pieces spanning from Dior’s inaugural collection to the latest creations by the current creative director, Maria Grazia Chiuri. Remarkably, Chiuri also holds the distinction of being Dior’s first female designer. Meandering from one vignette to another led you through the history of Christian Dior. Each detail, including insights into every designer who succeeded Dior after his passing in 1957, kept me captivated and wanting more. There was so much to absorb.

Yet, what struck me the most was the seamless continuity of style from one designer to the next. The unmistakable essence of the Dior vision remained front and centre, while each designer injected subtle cues that made their era distinctly their own. Honestly, I can’t say enough. I had goosebumps by the exhibit’s end. And just think, how incredible would it be to have the dream job of sorting through the treasures of 70 years of Dior fashion? Oh my gosh, what about the items that never made it to the exhibit?!

Paris, where there is love and the love of fashion, I’m not sure which of the two is more important, but I’m pretty sure they go hand in hand. Over the years, I’ve had many love affairs with dresses and shoes. It is possible. You know what I’m saying? It’s the new pair of shoes you can’t help but open your closet door for, just one more sneak peek, or the dress you tried on for the fifth time. I’m pretty sure I’m not alone in this fashion obsession. As for me, to have walked through the beautiful designs of Dior for the past 70 years is enough to satisfy this girl’s obsession, at least for a little while.
