Château La Coste

Looking for a spot that’s more than just wine tasting?

With so many places to choose from in Provence, we were having a hard time picking just one. We wanted something close to Aix-en-Provence, but still special—and Château La Coste totally hit the mark. It has a bit of everything: A vineyard? Yep. An art museum? That too. A resort? Sure is. A spot for a fantastic lunch? Absolutely.

We had no idea where we were going or what to expect—and then, wow… where are we?! Château La Coste completely surprised us. It ended up being one of the highlights of our trip: easy to get to, totally unique, and such a fun way to spend an afternoon.

The architecture was stunning. I especially loved how the reflection of the pool moved across the ceiling as we walked up the stairs.

Where we ate

Tadao Ando Cafe Restaurant is one of five dining spots on the property. Named after the renowned Japanese architect, it offers a truly stunning setting. The grounds at Château La Coste are huge, and since we weren’t sure where we were going, this café felt like the obvious first stop. And it turned out to be a great choice.

The wine and the food were perfection…

More to Taste (Even If We Didn’t Try Them All)

The Terrace (pictured below) has a completely different vibe from where we dined—more casual and relaxed. Beyond that, Château La Coste is home to several other distinct restaurants, including Francis Mallmann’s Argentinian spot, The Italian Restaurant, and Hélène Darroze at Villa La Coste, each offering its own unique experience. We didn’t get to try them all, but it’s clear that food is a major part of what makes this place so special.

Where to Stay

If you’re looking for a little getaway, both Auberge La Coste and Villa La Coste offer unique, intimate stays nestled among the vineyards, with beautiful views of the Luberon. Some suites even come with private pools—very chic, very peaceful.

The Cellar

Wine tastings are available daily from 10:00 am to 7:30 pm. Or, you can book one of their Food and Wine Pairings or Introduction to the Art of Tasting workshops through their website here.

Artist and Architects

Louise Bourgeois, Tia Thuy Nguyễn, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Damien Hirst, Sean Scully, Frank Gehry—the list goes on. The entire property serves as an open-air gallery, featuring sculptures and installations scattered throughout. You can wander at your own pace, discovering art in the vineyards, along stone paths, or in still ponds.

Château La Coste was one of those unexpected finds that kept surprising us, in the best way. With the wine, the art, the architecture, and the scenery, it felt like we stumbled upon something truly special. If you’re visiting Provence, this is a spot you shouldn’t miss.
