Paradise Found
The Maldives had always been a bucket-list destination, and with some creative planning, we made it happen without breaking the bank, well, sort of. Travelling off-season and using points to book our flights, we turned this dream into reality, proving that a touch of luxury can be surprisingly affordable. Best of all, it was a seamless journey—just one nonstop flight with British Airways from London to paradise.
With over 1,000 islands spread across this stunning archipelago, how you get around depends on where you’re staying. Once we landed, we boarded our floatplane conveniently from the same terminal. We were thoroughly impressed with how organized and efficient the entire process was.
Where we stayed
With so many islands and resorts to choose from, we found that Kuredu Island Resort was consistently recommended across several travel websites. We read all the reviews, plus it ticked many boxes for us (including budget), and we had the entire island to explore.
Kuredu Island Resort has three resorts in one, depending on your chosen accommodations: Sangu Resort, “O” Resort, and Main Area Resort. Your “home” base or resort area will be set depending on your choice.
All I can say is that we LOVED our beachfront villa with jacuzzi! Honestly, we couldn’t give a hoot about the jacuzzi, but the views and beachfront were perfection. If you’re travelling as a couple, I highly recommend asking to be located near Sangu Resort or “O” Resort. This gives you full access to the adult pool and your dining room.
If you’re a family travelling with children under 12, your only option is the Main Area Resort. It’s thoughtfully designed for families, complete with a playground and a games room to keep the kidos entertained.
We were initially booked in the Main Area Resort. Still, not wanting to stay in a family-oriented section, the resort was incredibly accommodating and allowed us to split our time between Sangu and O Resort. It turned out to be the best of both worlds. And, if you are booked in the Main Area Resort, you are able to experience the other resort areas twice a week, so long as your kids are over 12.
Main Area Resort
Our villa was perfect—I have to admit, I was completely obsessed with the luxurious outdoor shower.
Starting the day with coffee on the beach was absolutely the best.
Did I mention how warm the water was?! Gorgeous!
“O” Resort
Sangu Resort
The Sangu infinity pool was pure decadence, reserved exclusively for guests of the Sangu resort. No complaints, though—the beach more than made up for it, and it was nothing short of stunning.
I think beachfront dining at Sangu was my favourite…
Sun and Surf
Kuredu Island is very walkable, but how long it takes depends on your speed and ability to resist distractions. If you don’t stop to admire every seashell or sip every cocktail along the way, you can stroll the entire island in about an hour. But where’s the fun in that?
Coffee and Cocktails
After dinner, one of the highlights was strolling to the end of the pier, where (if you’re lucky) beneath the lit waters, manta rays glide gracefully while reef sharks circle nearby. Seeing them in their natural habitat was incredible and a nightly reminder of the magic surrounding the Maldives. The cocktails are pretty good too!
Chef’s Dinner and Wine Pairing
What an incredible evening! Rain almost threatened it, but we all insisted it was just a little sprinkle. In the end, it was perfect. Executive Chef Khemraj Bhatt outdid himself with a fantastic seven-course meal, perfectly paired with wines selected by our sommelier. It was a treat to meet some fellow guests, swapping stories about where we’re all from and adding even more flavour to an already memorable night.
Golf and more
But of course! For those who can’t tear themselves away from golf. There’s a driving range and a six-hole course (some very creative T’s) you can loop endlessly—perfect for working on your swing or just pretending you’re a pro.
Dive Shop, Gym & Spa
Obviously, not all at once! The dive shop features seasoned experts ready to take you on unforgettable adventures with manta rays and beyond. If you’re craving more thrills, there’s also a catamaran, windsurfing, kiteboarding, and even water skiing to keep you entertained.
As for the gym and spa? They looked incredible, but I’ll admit, I’m more of a lounger when it comes to the beach. Splashing around in the water and strolling along the shore counts as exercise in my book!
The Maldives was everything and more—a place where warm turquoise waters, powdery beaches, and beautiful villas made every moment unforgettable. Whether snorkelling with manta rays, sipping coffee on the beach, or simply soaking in the serenity, it truly felt like paradise perfected. Another bucket list item happily checked off!
