It’s here again, FALL.
And, if you’re like me, you’re already searching for that new “IT” fall piece to elevate your wardrobe. I love the change in seasons, and even though we’re still enjoying mild temperatures, I can’t wait to wrap myself in something cozy.
Jackets or blazers, as you will complete the outfit, refining your look. They’re a slightly warmer option for the in-between weather. Perfect over a T-shirt (plain or graphic), camisole, blouse or sweater, whatever your mood. With soooo many jacket options, you don’t have to be stuck looking corporate. Switching out a blouse with a tank top and adding a colourful scarf or funky piece of jewelry will completely change the look.
Coats are the workhorse, keeping us warm through those cold months. Let’s not take this layer for granted. You’ll look like you’ve just stepped off the runway with an investment coat and a great pair of boots. They’re also great for hiding your pj’s while dropping off the kiddos in the morning. Giv’n a high five to all the moms waiting in their cars. NO ONE will be the wiser;) Been there, done that!
My best advice is; don’t wait for the weather to get cold to purchase that great jacket or coat. New arrivals are in stores now and will be snatched up as soon as they’re unboxed and placed on hangers at your favourite shop. And yes, I’m speaking from experience. Sadly, I’m still mourning a few missed pieces.
Tomboy or Boyfriend
Simple to wear, and as the name indicates, wearing a boyfriend (or husband) jacket should fit roomy; it’s slightly oversized, which is great over a bulky sweater or a slip dress, worn over the shoulders with a spritz of his cologne. Sexy.
Tweed, Herringbone & Plaid
What can I say? I’m a plaid girl. Who would have guessed? Usually associated with men’s wear, it’s the best of both worlds; the outdoors meets urban chic, and this eclectic duo goes with practically everything.
Hey, and if you’re a true lumberjack at heart, a Mack Jacket might be your vibe. No. Seriously! Add a cashmere turtle neck, a great pair of jeans, boots, and your set! That said, a Glen plaid can be super sophisticated and dressy. So get to know your plaids.
Colour
Wearing colour during those gloomy grey days will give you something to smile about. Black and Navy are favourites, considered staples for sure, but colour stands out. It has personality and gives us energy. So consider adding colour to your wardrobe; you will be noticed and be ready for compliments. Need I say more?
Neutrals
And sometimes we need a break from pattern and colour. Neutrals are a great choice, especially if you’re purchasing your first investment piece. Choosing lightweight wool will carry you from one season to the next.
The Bomber or Jean Jacket
Short and sweet, this jacket has had several reincarnations and is designed with everything from denim to fur. This style is a perfect opportunity to add something special to your look. Perhaps the garment has an interesting pattern or detail (rhinestones?) that sets the rest apart. The bomber style is flattering with anything high-waisted and can be worn fitted or oversized.
Fitted & Sexy
I can’t imagine anything sexier than a fitted blazer worn alone with a lacy bra (especially in a bright colour), just enough to be seen but not giving too much away. This style of blazer hugs and flatters, paired with a pencil skirt, meeeeeoowe!
The Show Stopper
We are talking about a one-of-a-kind jacket or coat that has a unique design element that will have people stopping you in your tracks. And when you find this show stopper, you will love how you feel wearing it, and you can say, “oh, this old thing?” Love it!
