Romantic getaway to Whistler

Vancouver has been a rock star when it comes to flattening the curve during coronavirus. With that, the city and the province have been granted the reopening of select businesses, i.e., restaurants, hotels, shops and thankfully, hair salons! Still, there are strict rules surrounding this; social distancing, washing hands or using hand sanitiser and in certain circumstances, wearing masks, so nothing new, just our new normal.

Cooped up for weeks on end is enough to make most of us crazy, with no travel plans in sight, its tough to imagine summer without some sort of getaway. The reality is, this is the new reality. Borders are closed and like it or not, it’s time to get used to the idea of a staycation. I happen to live in one of the most beautiful destinations in the world, it’s time to explore.

My guy doesn’t miss a beat, with the re-opening of hotels, he surprised me with a weekend getaway to Whistler (it’s an hour and a bit drive from the city). Hotels are opened at half capacity, and enticing locals with great deals to visit their properties, sounds perfect, let’s go!

Yep, I’m spoiled, but it’s not by the hotel or the beautiful surroundings, it’s by my guy! It’s something I’m learning to get used to, he’s teaching me to be open and accepting. Guess what? I’m kind of enjoying it. Spending quality time together and soaking each other up, it doesn’t get much better than this. After a year and a half of being in our relationship, we still can’t seem to get enough of each other.  So…when I say it was a “decadent” weekend, I don’t mean we overindulged in food and drink. Instead, we took advantage of being in the moment, no distractions (well, maybe a few;) doing whatever our whims desired. Yes, everything between us is still shiny and new, but honestly, I don’t see much changing, we’re both having a lot of fun. I believe the success to our relationship has everything to do with our open communication, being respectful of each other, laughter,  and of course our insane chemistry…apparently, social distancing does not apply to us.

Our weekend away was a treat; I know it’s not possible for everyone. That said, there are many great ways to reconnect as a couple, even while staying at home. Get creative, yes, yes, yes…farm out the kids (trickier during a pandemic) turn off the news and grab your robes, don’t worry, you’ll be ditching them later. Set up an in-home spa, relaxing massages and a steamy shower? Better yet, wake up in the morning and stay in bed, you heard me…no rushing up for anything except for your morning coffee. Nothing sexier than lounging together in the bedroom, it’s decadence at it’s best. With a little preplanning, you can have a perfect weekend to remember. As did we…

It was a fantastic weekend with my guy, I’m one lucky gal, hell, we’re both lucky! I can’t help but gush. Our time together this weekend has definitely brought us closer, a reset button of sorts, reminding us of what we have is very special…
