Valentines Day

For the past six years, Valentine’s day for me was a bust, well ok, I may have poured myself a glass or two of wine, and commiserated how it sucks to be single. There was a time when Valentine’s day got me excited, but that was a much younger naive me. To be honest, it’s never been one of my favourite holidays, it feels forced and besides, who wants to sit in a packed restaurant celebrating with everyone else? I’m a little jaded perhaps though I’m not complaining, Valentine’s day makes me appreciate the people I love in my life. However, having that one special person to celebrate with adds an element of romance and who doesn’t love that? You say you’re too busy, or just don’t care? I get it, my son says, “who wants to celebrate a fake holiday used to incite mass consumerism?”  Jaded or not, it’s one day out of the year, it’s an actual holiday honouring LOVE. With all the bad in the world, shouldn’t we embrace this one special day? I say, go for it, celebrate as a couple or better yet, celebrate you, spoil yourself, you don’t have to break the bank

This Valentine’s day I’m celebrating as a couple which gets the girl in me excited. It might be a “fake holiday,” but I’m devoted to making it special, seriously, why not?  We’ve both agreed to no gifts (maybe a card?) and keeping the day simple, spending time together, dinner in and perhaps a game of twister?

“Love is life. All, everything that I understand, I understand only because I love. Everything is, everything exists, only because I love.”– Leo Tolstoy

I truly am a hopeless romantic, appreciate this special day, there’s nothing “fake” about being with the one you love. My goal is to make every day Valentine’s day…

Happy Valentines Day

  1. I am smiling with you. I can relate. The past few years of Feb 14 have been reasons to frown more than smile, although D was a reason to smile two years ago. Glad you have rediscovered the excitement!
