Essentially, I'm your friend down the street who started blogging, and then life threw lemons (AKA Divorce), and suddenly I found myself here, talking to you!

Whatever your genre, I can guarantee that most of you listen to music to escape. When I say “escape,” I’m not referring to anything terrible, just a momentary getaway. Whether it’s the tunes from your high school days or a song that takes you back to a fantastic night, music transports us. It brings us to a happy place, or at least helps us get there. Full disclosure: I have a little gypsy in me (surprise, surprise)—tambourine and all (not really). Music is a huge part of my life; I can’t get through a day without it. It’s my crack (for real). I don’t know exactly what my genre is. I listen to everything, from Lenny Kravitz, Drake, SZA, George Michael, and Diana Krall to opera, jazz, country, and more recently, Kendrick Lamar. Nothing is off-limits!

Music—who knew how powerful it could be? (Well, maybe I did, just not to the extent it’s affected me recently.) It’s been rocking my world. Imagine sending someone a song via text. Sounds harmless, right? Is it a favourite song you want to share with a friend or something more? Is there a message? How will this song affect you or the recipient?

I’ve taken listening to music to a whole other level, trying not to read too much into it. But seriously, how can I listen to the same song over and over again? Music has transported me to places I never would have expected. It’s all good—it’s a happy place, a mood, poetry in motion.

We have five senses: sight, hearing, touch, taste, and smell…

I’d like to think I’m very in tune with my senses, especially hearing (musically speaking) and smell (a spritz of Chanel?). I make both a priority every day. Yes, the other three senses are equally important. Can you still feel the touch of someone, taste that kiss, or see that amazing view? I can!

Wherever your tambourine may take you, don’t take it for granted. It’s the soul, spirit, and heart of something much larger than you can imagine. Listen to what is moving you right now, act on it, and don’t let that moment end. Thankfully, there’s a replay button, just in case you didn’t hear it the first time.

  1. As soon as I closed your blog entry, I went to my Google Play account and searched for the new Kravitz song. Thanks… I LOVE IT! After that song, I chose Lenny Kravitz as my artist for the day and have listened to nothing but him. It was a great choice for Monday office music.
